Oral Hygiene For Orthodontic Patients
Brushing
If you are wearing traditional braces, good oral hygiene is important. Braces can act as a food trap. The results can be discolored teeth and cavities. Brushing after every meal will prevent these issues. Be sure to schedule regular hygiene appointments with your family dentist. If you have been thinking about Invisalign, it would be our pleasure to do an evaluation at no cost. Bad oral hygiene can cause the loss of bone support and loosening of the teeth, especially if they are worn flat by grinding or clenching. This is more likely to occur in an adult dentition.
Mouthwash
We recommend that our patients thoroughly rinse their mouth with water or mouthwash.
Cleaning Your Retainer
Brush your retainer with cold soapy water when you remove it from your mouth. Do not use toothpaste, it is very abrasive. Denture cleansers are optional but not required.
Cleaning Your Clear Aligners
Oral hygiene is always important especially when you are wearing Invisalign aligners. Throughout the day food and beverages can become trapped in the aligners and if left uncleaned, cavities will form more rapidly. Brush your clear aligners with cold soapy water before placing them in your mouth. Do not use toothpaste, it is very abrasive. Denture cleansers are optional but not required.
