What to Do in Case of Emergency

Call our office as soon as possible if you break or loosen any of your appliances. Please do not come directly to the office – by calling us, you will allow us to create a time to see you. Even if you have a regular appointment scheduled, call us immediately to notify us if you need an appliance repaired.

Loose Brackets or Bands

Call our office at your earliest convenience to determine if you need to be seen as soon as possible.

Wire Irritations

Sometimes discomfort caused by a wire on your braces can be resolved by moving the wire away from the irritated area. If the wire will not move, try covering the end of it with a small amount of wax. If you cannot resolve the wire irritation, call our office for an appointment.

Discomfort with Orthodontic Treatment

During the first week after your braces are placed and when routine adjustments are performed, you will probably feel some discomfort and occasionally some soreness. Chewing sugarless gum for a few minutes, a few times a day, will get the blood flowing around the roots of the teeth. This will help the soreness diminish. You may also take acetaminophen or other non-aspirin pain relievers while you adjust to your new braces. Keep in mind that it may take a couple of weeks for your mouth to get used to the braces, appliances and retainers.

After Hours, Weekends, or Holidays

In case of a painful emergency during these times, please call the office and in the voicemail you will hear instructions on how to contact Dr. Elassal. He will gladly meet with you and take care of your emergency no matter when and what time of the day it is!
